Sheila Ross
Sheila Ross, a trained painter and sculptor with two degrees in Studio art, has been working extensively as a ceramic artist and potter for over 10 years. The impulse for all the work, including her abstract paintings, conceptual sculpture/installations and functional pottery often originates from a similar place — an abstract motif like a triangle or recognizable image like bricks, clouds, wood grain and other patterns found in the natural world. Ross also incorporates into her ceramics painterly brush strokes with slips and glazes and sgraffito techniques which are akin to painting and drawing techniques. While Ross often works in many different media, the images and methods used to embellish a surface of a painting, a wheel thrown or hand built ceramic vessel are often the same.
